SAKURAI Ikuya: 1964 Born in Nara, Japan. 1984–95 Learned Butoh, Contemporary dance and Eurythmy under Akira Kasai. Participated in Kasai’s Butoh performances both in Japan and overseas as a stage manager and assistant of choreography.1993 Began working as a dancer, collaborating with musicians and artists to cross over the borders of arts. Every year creates and presents two to three new solo pieces.1994 Showed first dance work “De Profundis – Mists / Rain Tree”. 1995 Finish the curriculum of Eurythmy at Kasai Akira’s Tenshi-kan and showed solo piece both in Japan and Germany. 1997 Established SAKURAI IKUYA cross section (unit for dance & art) with Sakurai Emico. (production manager & scenographer).Participated in the first Sphere Mex Fringe Dance Festival. 2000 Participated in the fourth Theater X International Dance Festival. Performed in Nakano Keiko’s dance performance at Ludwig Forum Aachen in Germany.2001,2006-2009 Danced at the Hakushu Festival directed by Tanaka Min. 2002 Choreographed for NHK educational TV Program. 2006 Invited from 10th “a sul” Contemporary Dance Festival in Portugal. Until now, he has been created and showed about 30 dance pieces.
